Situation

As part of the inaugural Sakura Blue exercise we have deployed troops to the islands of Tarama, Ishigaki, and Iriomote--as well as a number of smaller outlying islands--playing the part of invading forces for our Japanese friends to expel. For our purposes the Japanese forces are playing the part of hostile forces attempting an invasion of our sovereign territory.

Current weather forecasts indicate some light storm activity during the week ahead. This region is known for typhoons at this time of year, however we are assured by the meteorological office that there is no current indication of any tropical lows or tropical storms developing. Regardless of any inclement weather encountered during the exercise it is vital that our mission objectives are achieved.

Enemy Forces

Japan

A significant portion of the Japanese Self-Defense Force (JSDF) has been deployed to re-take the islands; their air operations at such a distance from the Home Islands are likely to be significantly degraded. Japan's large and modern Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF) is a major threat, and their 'Helicopter Destroyers' (read: Aircraft Carriers) and amphibious transports should be your primary targets. Once these capital units are destroyed--along with the accompanying losses of manpower--it is expected that the Japanese will be quick to the negotiating table.

While our goals are primarily defensive, it has often been said that the best defense is a good offense.

Friendly Forces

Given the scope and importance of this exercise, you have control of the entire Republic of China Navy (RoCN) and Republic of China Air Force (RoCAF) with significant support from the Republic of China Army (RoCA).

Mission

Hold the islands of Tarama, Ishigaki, and Iriomote while inflicting maximum losses to deter further Japanese attempts to re-take the islands.

Execution

1. Establish air and naval patrols in the vicinity of the islands of Tarama, Ishigaki, and Iriomote.
2. Identify and interdict Japanese forces as necessary to ensure the security of forces on Tarama, Ishigaki, and Iriomote.
3. Minimise friendly casualties.
4. Inflict maximum losses on Japanese forces in order to bring a swift end to the conflict.

Logistics

Munitions held in central reserve may be requisitioned and sent to airbases as desired.
